It has the look of Ten Forward from TNG. The sushi is good and the price$ are less then most sushi/japenese restaurants. I have been there many times and most of the food on the menu is good to very good. I really like the Sake Flight/Sampler at $10 is a real deal. And they offer Groupons and coupons often as well. They now have a couple good beers on draft as well. There are four choices of seating: bar, booth, table, and sushi bar. I have tried all of them and each provides a slightly different experience.

Well, I ended up coming back a lot later than I originally thought I would, but I was a lot happier with my meal this time around. For one thing, they got rid of that awful soundtrack they had before--phew! It also seemed like the food quality was upped a bit. I didn't get the exact same thing I had before, but I did get the North Oaks Roll, which my dining partner had before. It seemed like the taste and the presentation were better than I remembered it being. The gyoza we had was pretty good, too. We also tried a Philadelphia Roll, and it was quite nice.

Went with a group of friends, Suishi was priced fairly for sushi and the food was excellent. Also service was quick. The place is decorated in a very modern look. Even the bathrooms with the leaf sink looks fabulous. I would recommend trying this restaurant. They also had two big, wide screen TV's over the bar.

We tried the sampler dinner, so got to try many things. Enjoyed them all, but Sashimi is my favorite and it was good! Service.......ummmm....nice enough waitress, but it took a long time to take our original order. Others were impatiently waiting for service and it was NOT busy . We had about 8 different courses and unfortunately most of them came at one time and we waited for the first for about 15 minutes after ordering. Beautiful restaurant inside. Quiet and nice.

I came here for the first time for my birthday dinner. The reviews on here looked good and I wanted to try shabu shabu. I've been craving it since I left Houston. This place had polite, helpful service even on a surprisingly busy Monday night. It was worth the wait because the sushi was fresh, the sushi rice was prepared correctly and they used real crab in the rainbow roll. Thank you!!! I've had so much imitation seafood lately. I miss fish roe but all places have gone away from it...probably to keep costs down? Anyway, the hot pot, although can't be cooked at the table was good. I would've liked it to be hotter in temperature but I'm used to it boiling at the table. There was a good portion of beef and vegetables. One pot for two people was plenty. The prices were very reasonable. I will come back to try more menu items. Everything that came out, even to other tables, looked delicious!

Oh god, another strip-mall suburban sushi place on Groupon - my brain. Holy sh*t it's actually really good - my mouth. I came here right after work, so I immediately sat at the bar and demanded alcohol be poured on my face. Orrrr I chatted it up with the cool bartender as I happily sipped a Japanese-inspired margarita. When my boyfriend arrived, our bartender offered to serve us at a table as well. We had a lot of questions since it was our first time here. Starting with, "How do you pronounce the restaurant name?" (swee-shin). The bartender, now server, was very knowledgeable on the menu items and gave us suggestions based on our expressed preferences. We got a few basic rolls, but the star of the night was their Suishin roll (Asparagus, Spicy Tuna crunch inside, salmon outside, w. special sauce). It had all of the elements of a well composed roll - fresh, crunchy, savory, spicy, sweet. We ate it cross-eyed. Another dish I'd recommend is the Seafood Platter. It came with miso soup and steamed & seasoned broccoli. It ended up filling us up so much that we brought home leftovers, which is something that does not happen to us often. Suishin offers great value compared to other places in the TC, but I will say I am glad I had the Groupon. And the drink menu is a little cryptic - I had to ask what was in each specialty cocktail. But other than that, we loved the place. My boyfriend took pictures of the inside decor because he fantasizes about having the same lovely back-lit decorative paper walls in the dream house we will never have.

We discovered this wonderful sushi place via a Groupon deal. The food was all very fresh, plentiful, and delicious, the service was excellent, and the prices--even without a Groupon--were very reasonable for what we got. The Twin Cities' northern suburbs aren't always a mecca for excellent food, but this place was an exception. We will definitely return!

The first thing I noticed was that the women's bathroom has signage proudly advertising the presence of a diaper changing table. Isn't that nice? It's a good thing that I'm not a man, because they don't get a changing table. Lucky me. The sushi was delicious. It was fresh and of good quality. We ordered a platter of a variety of tempura items. It was AWFUL. It had zero flavor. Some of the pieces were cold. It desperately needed salt or some kind of sauce. A spicy mayo? Something. No amount of soy was helping. We had to remind the server to bring us things that he had forgotten. Several. Times. We finally gave up on one of the items. Then we had to ask him to remove them from our tab, because he didnt forget to charge us. Oy. We'll go back to New Fresh Wok in Falcon Heights, our usual place. That place is awesome.

For the middle of nowhere suburbia, this place is pretty good. I had two pretty standard sushi rolls: spicy tuna, shrimp tempura/crunchy roll, and both were delicious. The spicy tuna could have been a little spicier but that's okay. My date had one of the rice bowls, which I tried, and that was also scrumptioussss. This bowl by the way was only $7 and pretty big! My date by no means is a light eater. Hehe. I had a cocktail for $7 and he had three tall Sapporo beers at $5/each. Some of the items on the dinner menu were a little hefty compared to other Japanese restaurants I have been to but over all, they had fairly decent prices. Btw our waiter Alex was hilarious. We will revisit if we are in the area again. :)

Food here is ok considering the area. The prices are typical of a sushi joint. The Decor is nice. There's plenty of parking. The wait staff are attentive. We eat here occasionally. I wish they would offer specials.

Nice atmosphere, we've eaten here several times and the food has been reliably good. We were a bit spoiled living downtown for several years and having tons of options for sushi and affordable happy hour options. But now that we live in the north metro Suishin is our favorite local place for sushi.

first the positives: the atmosphere was great. it's a clean place, and the staff was attentive. the reason I gave this only 2 stars, is because our entire party felt the food was way overpriced for the quality. the Sea Bass tempura was chewy, the noodle dish, rice bowl, and some kind of beef/broth dish were all just ok in flavor and quality. We also ordered 4 sushi rolls, which were fresh, large, and pretty. The rolls themselves were pretty good, I especially liked the spicy tuna, however the wasabi served with it was completely bland. The server was friendly and attentive, but he seemed confused about the dishes. Some of the people at our table weren't exactly sure what they ordered, and when the food came the server seemed just as confused about the dishes. He also didn't know which person at the table got soup before their meal, so he put down 3 bowls of soup before the meal and the 6 of us had to figure out who was supposed to have the soup. I wouldn't think that's a huge deal, but for $20 a plate, I'd expect the server to keep track of who ordered which dish. the review on yelp said this is good for kids, maybe for older kids, but not younger kids. The ambiance is kind of upscale and it's a small quiet place. If your young ones make even a small noise the entire restaurant will hear it.

Super clean sushi restaurant. The atmosphere and vibe are pretty good. Our waiter was really attentive, fast, and non intrusive. The sushi was fairly priced, $2-$4 less for some rolls that I have had at other places around the Twin Cities. The chef that was on duty when we were dining was fast, and rolled Sushi amazingly well. Our rolls were fat, loaded with good stuff! We are looking forward to going back.

The Sukiyaki is so good! Same as Shabu Shabu! Do you love veggie tempura? Try the Garden Roll! Wei makes some really tasty concoctions. The fish is always very fresh and the service is excellent! You definitely need to try the table top cooking if you go! :) The Volcano Roll and North Oaks Roll also never fail! :)

We had lunch today at Suishin Japanese Restaurant. I had the Rainbow roll, which has crab, cucumber, and avocado inside and 5 different fish varieties on the outside. It was absolutely marvelous, the sushi rice prepared to perfection and the fish very fresh and tender. The presentation was beautiful and the service was great, as well. I have been to many good Japanese restaurants in the 'Cities, but Suishin may be my favorite one. Great ambience, good service and delicious, well prepared food. Thanks for another great dining experience!

I had to write a review to try to balance this restaurant's overall rating. As Curtis mentioned, the decor is really quite nice and upscale for a strip mall. The gyoza was above average. The California, spicy tuna, asparagus and tuna rolls were all very good and reasonably priced. The shrimp tempura roll had a sweet sauce that my wife and I were split on. We enjoy sushi and have been to all of the best options in the Twin Cities. We are very pleased to have one which is on par with the best, near home!

Suishin makes excellent sushi, and is only slightly inferior to Origami, the best in the Twin Cities. It rates a full 4.5, and would rate 5 if it had a wider variety. The quality of the fish is excellent, the preparation is good, especially the hand rolls, and the atmosphere is modern and relaxed. This'll is a diamond in the rough.

We decided to try Suishan, because we saw a Living Social deal, and to celebrate our Anniversary. We love Japanese food, and have been to many places all over the US and Canada. We walked in and the atmosphere was very nice, but no one was there at the front to greet us and seat us, so we sat ourselves. The waitress Kelly was very nice, and helpful. My wife ordered some tea to start and really enjoyed it. So things were starting out well. We ordered the following entrees, the Ika Age ( calamari) , we were disappointed because it was more like ika katsu, than ika age, very thick breading. The beef taki lacked flavor and was sliced thick. The Age Dashi Tofu was just average. The Dragon roll was just ok, and finally the Volcano roll had way to much crunchy stuff surrounding the roll. Suishin was definately not worth the long drive. We will not be back.

Great relaxing atmosphere. There was a lot of choices for both sushi and entrees. The tonkatsu was better than some more expensive Japanese restaurants. The pork was juicy and the breading was not overwhelming. The presentation of all the dishes was fantastic. This is a great place for a quiet evening dinner. Try the green tea tempura ice cream for dessert.

Best. Sushi. Ever. I am not a sushi expert but we are obsessed with this place! We are actually starting to become regulars which is totally awesome. Their garden roll is to die for, it's one of the most expensive rolls but it's worth every penny. All of the waiters are super nice and the ambiance is great for a small sushi place. They also have frequent Living Social/Groupon/Amazon Local deals so you can save some cash. Go to Suishin, you won't regret it!

Great sushi! We headed there early to attend happy hour and I was disappointed that a small selection of items were only about a dollar off. The place was very quiet (as in noise) inside during happy hour but had about 7 tables of customers by the time we left. The food was wonderful and people working there were attentive and polite.

Just had a crunchy roll, volcano roll and spider roll. All fabulous but my favorite was definatly the volcano roll. Went during lunch we were the only people inside. I don't know why this place is great. Definatly going back the prices were fine not at all expensive.

I really wanted to love this place but I just couldn't. My mom and I went here with a groupon since I had wanted to try it and we had three different rolls. Lobster, Aspen, and something else along with the kani salad. The rolls had amazing flavor and were quite large. But they were so large you couldn't eat them in one bite to get all the flavor and they kept falling apart. All of the rice was sticking to the plate so the rolls were just falling apart before we could even eat them. And being that there are no forks, we just used our hands. The kani salad was also decent but the crab had a weird texture. Flavor was good, but meat was weird. And the Crunchy on top had gotten all soggy and gross. The other reason it kind of sucked was that our waitress only checked on us once. While my mom and I were desperately trying to get the two last pieces of fallen apart lobster roll in our mouth. And then took quite a while to bring us the check. Also, if you're not expecting it, the booths aren't nailed to the ground. We were at the far end of one and sat down and both of our booth seats moved. Not a bad idea to be able to rearrange the restaurant but just took us by surprise. Ps their water sucks. They serve it without ice and it's definitely just tap water. Doesn't even taste filtered. That's hard to mess up right there

Saw a Groupon (at least the second time I've seen one for them) so we decided to give them a try. For us, Origami is the best the Twin Cities has to offer, but it's spendy (and rightly so) and now that we live in the northeast suburbs it's also a haul. We've been looking for a closer sushi place and this is the best in the area by far. Their sushi is beautiful and the rolls have the chef's touch as they are slightly, but fantastically different than same-named ones elsewhere. My only wish is that their sake selection be bigger, but that's not going to keep us from going back again and again.

Not your typical sushi bar. It's hidden in strip mall but once you walk in, the atmosphere reflects a small yet classy place. With a nice bar area, my wife and I enjoyed a few drinks and dug into a nice selection of sushi. I liked everything especially the Sashimi but wasnt a huge fan of the eel (personl preference). I found the restaurant on Orgadeal and asked for a first time visit discount. If you are in the mood for sushi, close to home, its a nice place to go but other than that, I give it an 7 out of 10.

For a wonderful Sushi experience, do not miss out on this. Husband and wife team always have a big smile, and love what they do. And of course the Sushi is awesome! This place is beautiful - a hidden GEM off Hodgson in the Walgreens strip mall - North Oaks (Shoreview area).

The food was very good. I had the teriyaki steak. It was the best I have ever had. The environment is very nice and quiet. It is easy to have a conversation. The service was also excellent. I would highly recommend Suishin.
